Recently, we moved our website www.speakmarketingservices.com from Weebly to WordPress.  In no way were we dissatisfied with Weebly, however we felt that for our business, WordPress was a more appropriate platform. Which one is right for your business? These three key differences should point you in the right direction:

Ease of use – Weebly offers a flexible drag and drop design platform allowing the user to place items such as text, images, and videos in a matter of minutes. WordPress, on the other hand, is much more complex and takes some time to become familiar with.  If you are looking to build one site and be done and have no desire to become a website building expert, then Weebly is for you.

Advanced features – WordPress has an overwhelming number of plug-ins available that allow for almost any website feature you can dream up.  While these developers are growing the number of plug-ins they offer for platforms such as Weebly, WordPress still takes the cake.  If you want a site that has all the bells and whistles such as pop-up email forms, live chat, advanced shopping cart functionality, etc. then WordPress is for you.

Support in numbers – WordPress has been around since 2003 and currently powers over 26% of websites throughout the world. This large community of users demands a large number WordPress experts and support services.  Weebly provides support directly to their customers, however, finding a third party designer or support technician can be difficult. Finding support for WordPress is pretty easy, however, it could be costlier due to the level of expertise WordPress requires. If you envision building a fairly straight-forward website with little need for assistance, Weebly is for you.  If you are looking to build a custom site, and need some assistance along the way, WordPress may be the way to go.

So which platform do we recommend to our clients? It depends…if the client wants a fairly simple informative site to advertise their product or service, location, examples of work, and contact information we will build them a Weebly site.  If the client wants a highly-customized site with many unique design features, then we will build their site on WordPress.  It is very important to determine upfront whether or not the client would like to be able to manage and make changes to their website themselves in the future.  Unless they have an interest in learning about website development, we will build their site in Weebly, giving them the ability to make these changes themselves.

Still wondering which platform is best for you? Contact us and we’d be happy to point you in the right direction!
