Social Media Quick Tip – Do One Thing Well

Many people will participate in a seminar or read a book on social media and experience a burst of inspiration to get started. While being motivated is great, make sure to focus your efforts on one thing at a time. One social media site done well is worth more than several done poorly. Dedicate your time to building one audience on one platform. Set goals that you want to achieve with that platform, such as posting one item per week or getting 200 followers. Once you are successful in that arena, piggyback new sites off of that popularity. […]

Freebie Friday – Website Grader

Today’s Freebie Friday is one of my favorite and most used freebies.  It is a service provided by Hubspot that allows you to quickly check the performance, SEO, and mobile rendering of your website and provides your site an overall score between 1 – 100.  Not only does it point out some areas of improvement for your site, it also directs you to resources on exactly how to do so.  Simply visit website.grader.com, enter your URL and email address, and you will be provided with an easy to understand overview of your website. Freebie Friday – Dropbox

When working on many marketing projects whether it be with an agency, designer, or printer you will find yourself needing to send large files.  These files are generally too large to send through email or fit just below the size requirements but will eventually take up all of your email storage.  This is where Dropbox comes in.  Dropbox allows users to upload files and send direct download links to anyone through email.  While there are many similar services, Dropbox is widely used which increases the chances that the person you are collaborating with already has a Dropbox account as well.  Most jobs can usually be done with a free account if you delete old files from time to time.  If you need to store many large files for a long period of time, Dropbox does offer paid accounts starting at $8.25/month for 1 TB of storage.  Sign up for Dropbox to make your file sharing a breeze. Marketing is a Complement to Personal Interaction, Not a Replacement

Recently, I was involved in planning a grand opening event for a client who was expanding their business into a new location. The purpose of the event was to gain general awareness in a new market as well as entice potential customers to step foot in the store and see what makes the client’s company different than their competitors. As we prepared for the event, we had a pretty awesome plan in place.  We were going to mail both save the dates and formal invitations, promote a raffle with several great prizes, market through the local chamber of commerce, and participate in some online banner advertising. […]

Freebie Friday – Survey Monkey

This Friday we’re bringing you one of our absolute favorite freebies – Survey Monkey. This web-based software is great for conducting customer surveys, polling your employees, or gaining market intelligence.  Over the years, Survey Monkey has done a lot of work on their user interface making it extremely easy to build surveys and create reports of your results. They are also very generous with including many features on their free version of the software.  […]

3 New Year’s Resolutions for Marketing Your Business

Commit to a Marketing Budget – As a business owner you have to make sure items like payroll, utilities and rent are always budgeted for which leaves items like marketing at the bottom of the priority list. It is important to try to set aside a set amount of money that you would like to spend on marketing, no matter how small. When you do, you’ll find that if you are spending this money on the right marketing activities, they will more than pay for themselves. Develop Your Marketing Expertise – There are countless resources on marketing available for free, you just have to take the time to take advantage of them. Even if you are working with an outside marketing firm, it is important to have a basic understanding of how marketing affects your business.  Hubspot offers excellent free webinars that you can watch on your own time following the live event.  While there are 1,000s of books on marketing, focus on reading the books that have been written within the past few years. While the principals of marketing have not changed much, the technology used and mindset of the consumer are constantly evolving. Don’t have time to learn more about marketing? Empower one of your employees to become the point person for your marketing activities. Try Something New – Marketing is always changing and you have to change with it.  Make it a goal to try at least one thing new this year. Many forms of marketing such as Google AdWords, Facebook Advertising, listing your business on Yelp, or creating a LinkedIn business page cost little to no money. Pick a tactic that you’ve always wanted to try and go for it! […]

Talk the Talk – 10 Digital Marketing Terms You Should Know

Sometimes it can feel like the world is filled with buzzwords, especially when it comes to marketing.  They can be hard to keep up with, and sometimes seem downright silly like the term SoLoMo (an inclusive term for the three big trends of social media, local commerce, and mobile apps). Regardless of what is currently the hot buzzword, there are several terms that every business owner should be aware of, even if they’re not a digital marketing professional. HubSpot has done [...]

Freebie Friday – Rapportive

This week’s Freebie Friday features a free software called Rapportive.  Unfortunately, this software is only available for those who use Gmail or G Suite as their email platform.  Because of this reason, I considered crossing it off the Freebie Friday list, however, I felt it was a great enough software to highlight for those who can take advantage of it. Rapportive allows you to create a connection between your email desktop and your LinkedIn account.  Simply download the software, connect your existing LinkedIn account and you are set to go. Now, every time you send or receive an email, the corresponding LinkedIn account overview of anyone on the mailing will appear on the right hand side of the screen.  This information will include the person’s LinkedIn photo, location, current employer and title.  If you are not already connected to this person on LinkedIn, you can add them instantly, without having to leave your email inbox. If you use Gmail or G Suite for your emails, I highly recommend installing Rapportive.  Its simple design will help you grow your LinkedIn network with ease. […]

Freebie Friday – Peek User Testing

This freebie Friday has to be one of my favorites to share because of how unique it is.  Peek User Testing is a service that provides you with a video of an actual user visiting your website and sharing their comments while they navigate around the site.  They offer two free tests every month and of course other paid offerings such as longer in-depth tests and tests by users who fit your audience demographics.  The quality of the feedback can vary [...]
